Hi! My name is CA (Cee-A), and Native Tucsonan I am not. Family and friends are important to me, and many of them are avid seamstresses and quilters who have shared the uniqueness of thread and fabric. Ahh, the stories told when creating and why something is made are always fascinating. I hope you’ll come share your stories and projects with me.
I am a wife and mother of six children, two of which married into our family. I have lived in Tucson since 2010. I’ve also lived in Nevada, Ohio, Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, and southern California. My first sewing project was a bathrobe that I made with my mother when I was 9 years old, but I didn't refine my sewing skills until after I bought my first sewing machine--which I purchased because my sister convinced me that I couldn’t go off to college without one. I sewed most frequently when my children were little, and now find myself using my sewing skills for home decor, formal dresses, and costumes. I also enjoy crocheting, square-foot gardening (off and on), hiking, and reading.
I have adopted my daughter's definition of creativity: using available resources to help accomplish one's purposes. Because of this paradigm, I have greater success in my projects and feel more freedom to create.
Ron Sanchez, previous owner, continues working part-time in sales and services. After living in rainy Seattle for many years, Ron and his wife decided to dry out and move to Tucson in 1975. While his wife continued her studies in education, Ron walked into a Sew & Vac shop looking for a job. He was hired to work in repairs learning that end of the business, and he worked his way up to the sales floor. In 1981 he met R.E. Best, who was wanting to sell his business. Ron bought AZ Vac & Sew, serving the Tucson Community with sales and service until January 2012 when he sold the business to Tim and Dena Dority.
I am a native of Wisconsin, married with two children and three grandchildren. I learned to sew as a child but have only become a quilting fanatic in the last 20 years. I also love to garden and knit. Since I am newly retired, I hope to have a lot more time to enjoy my family and hobbies.
I’m Megan. My family moved to Tucson from Flagstaff just after my first birthday. At a very young age I began making doll clothes and have been sewing ever since. I like working with all kinds of fabric, including leather. I crochet, do beadwork, and paint.
One of the things I enjoy the most is sharing what I’ve learned. I especially enjoy sharing with beginners. If you have sewing questions, don’t be afraid to ask. If I don’t have the answer, I feel confident that one of the crew here at AZ Vac & Sew/Eagles Wings Quilting will!
